July 28th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s presidency has said no scheduled meeting between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar outside South Sudan.
This came a few days after some media houses reported that the head of state is expected to meet the main armed opposition leader during a trip to Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Wednesday.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, Presidential Press Secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny, said there is no any expected meeting between President Kiir and opposition leader Machar.
He said the President is visiting Addis Ababa upon an invitation by the Ethiopian premier which he said is aimed at discussing matters concerning bilateral relations between the two countries saying details of the invitation didn’t include any meeting with Machar.
“No [scheduled] meeting with [SPLM-IO leader] Riek [Machar] outside South Sudan,” Ateny told Nyamilepedia from Juba on Sunday.
“The President is on working visit to Ethiopia in response to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed[‘s] invitation which did not include its details any meeting of the opposition leader,” Ateny added.
