March 27, 2021(Nyamilepedia) — The Nile Petroleum Corporation managing director, Eng. Bol Ring Muorwel, on Friday, assured the South Sudanese that the issues of fuel shortages will be resolved by the refinery.
Eng. Muorwel said this after holding a meeting with President Salva Kiir Mayardit and discussed issues pertaining to the oil sector.
Muorwel told the media after a meeting in which he briefed President on the ongoing projects of Nilepet especially on the ongoing processes of setting up the refinery as well as the ongoing construction project of the main building of Nile Petroleum Corporation.
South Sudan has been experiencing oil shortages which were worsened by the COID-19 pandemic.
The country’s official production of crude oil has dropped to 170,000 barrels a day as lockdowns to control the coronavirus delay the movement of production equipment and materials.
The commodity is the landlocked country’s only major export and is crucial to an economy shattered by conflict since it seceded from Sudan in 2011.
“Because of this Covid-19, because of the oil price dropping there is no foreign exchange and our pound has become of less value,” Makur said at the time.
On Friday, Eng. Bol Ring assured the people of South Sudan that the issues of fuel shortages will be solved by Nilepet refinery very soon.
