New trade minister, deputy defense minister sworn in

September 26th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The newly appointed minister of trade and industry alongside the new deputy minister of defense were sworn-in today at the Presidential Palace J1 according to the South Sudan Presidency.

President Salva Kiir on Monday appointed Malek Rueben who is under UN sanctions for derailing peace efforts as the deputy defense minister and appointed Paul Mayom Akech as the new trade minister.

“The President of the Republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday witnessed the swearing in of Mr. Paul Mayom Akech, as the new Minister of Trade and East African Affairs, and General Malek Ruben as Deputy Minister of Defense,” the Presidency said in a statement.

According to the Presidential Press Unit,  President Salva Kiir urged the new officials to work for peace a stability in the young African nation.

“The President of the Republic urged the new ministers to work for peace and stability. He pointed out that the war that began in 2013 has cost the country a huge loss, and we must open a new page of restoring peace and stability to the country,” the Presidency said in a statement.
