New custom clearance regulations a matter of concern – WFP

January 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The United Nation agency, the World Food Programme (WFP) said in a report published on Saturday that new requlations imposed by the government of South Sudan to govern the custom clearance is a matter of concern to the agency.

“WFP is concerned about the new regulations governing the customs clearance procedures,” teh report partly read.

The report, tittled “WFP South Sudan Situation Report #237, 19 January 2019,” said despite special status given to humanitarian items crossing into South Sudan, the new requlation have resulted into the delayment of humanitarian items at the boarder.

“In spite of the language about excepted humanitarian items, it has resulted in humanitarian goods being held at the border,” it said.

“There have been a number of commercial fuel trucks contracted by WFP stuck at the Nimule border crossing. Although the tankers are not WFP trucks per se, they carry bulk fuel intended for WFP operations, which if further delayed can jeopardize on humanitarian efforts,” it added.
