National staff working in oil companies begin protests effective from today and threaten to hold on!

Juba, South Sudan

August 26,2021—The Nationals working at oil companies in South Sudan are calling for immediate implementation of the Unified Human Resources Policies Manual or else they threaten to take it to the street to demonstrate their rights as the national security remains on guards monitoring a scheduled protests by another undercover civil society organization.

This comes after meetings held on August 24, 2021 by joint staff of oil companies and special seating of JOCs general assembly conducted on 25th of August 2021 to evaluate partners delay in implementing the new Unified Policy Manual 2021.

In a joint statement addressed to South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum, Puot Kang Chol, Under Secretary of Petroleum Ministry, Awow Daniel and presidents of GPOC, SPOC and DPOC and other senior staffs, the national staffs condemned in the strongest terms possible the statement issued on 23rd of August 2021 by foreign partners in which they demonstrated their unwillingness to accept the call of national workforce.

“The National staff reject partners direction to effect payment of August 2021 using old Human Resources Manual policy”, the statement reads.

“Condemn JOCs delay of the August 2021 salary/wages which has gravely affected the families and employee dependents”, the statement added.

Gaitano Victor, Chairman of GPOC sub office Workers Trade Union, James Jumma, Chairman SPOC Society and DPOC representative have announced to go for industrial strike for three days with effect from today 26th of August 2021 until their demands are fulfilled.

“In lieu of the above, the National Staff in the three JOCs (DPOC, SPOC and GPOC) will go for industrial strike with effect from 26th August 2021 at 12 00:00am midnight and to continue for three days as stipulated in South Sudan labor act 2017 article 64, such industrial action may take place for indefinite period if the grievances are not addressed “, the statement says.

Last month minister of petroleum Puot Kang Chol issued a statement ordering the unification of human resources manual policy between nationals and foreigners working at oil companies in South Sudan.
