November 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) has arrested – this morning – a SPLA-IO officer of high-rank in Juba, relatives and colleagues said this evening.
Lt. Col. Ngarngar Batuh was arrested this morning at a Juba tea shop, his wife who is in the Egyptian capital Cairo told the Nyamilepedia this evening.
“I spoke to him today in the morning at 7 [am]. Around 11:00AM, I was told that he was arrested by the national security,” the wife said.
“While he was sitting in a tea shop, someone got in and told him that ‘someone is looking for you’ and when he got out, he found out that he was being arrested and then took away,” she added.
A senior SPLM-IO official told the Nyamilepedia from Juba that Batuh was arrested under unclear circumstances and efforts to get him released were underway.
“He was arrested and we do not know what the reason of the arrest was at a time when the government and the SPLM-IO are implementing the revitalized peace agreement,” the official told the Nyamilepedia from Juba on condition of anonymity.
He urged the government to release Batuh who he said was in Juba on a peace mission as dozens of “SPLA-IO officers went to the South Sudanese capital for peace implementation.”
The official said Batuh is being held at the “notorious National Security’s ‘Blue House’ in Juba illegally.”
