National Security Service arrests acting director of the Sudd Institute.

August 2, 2021 — South Sudan National Security Service (NSS) has shutdown the Sudd Institute and arrested Dr. Augustino Ting Mayai, the acting managing director of the Sudd Institute.

According to reports confirmed by Sudd Institute officials, the Security operatives have closed down the offices of the policy research firm, the Sudd Institute in Juba.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, a senior researcher at the Sudd Institute says some of staff have been arrested and detained at the Blue House including the acting director of Sudd Institute, Dr. Augustino Ting Mayai.

According to the statement, the Sudd Institute slams the action taken by NSS and called on the immediate release of the detainees.

“The Sudd Institute condemns the actions of the NSS and demands the release of those arrested”, the statement reads

Dr. Jok Madut Jok, founder of the Sudd Institute criticized the government for carrying out intimidations and arbitrarily arrests in the country which he says is against the constitutionally protected rights of citizens.
