July 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan’s National Security Service (SSNSS) have reportedly reinstated former Civil Society Alliance leader, Akuoch Ajang Nyanhom, who was impeached in May 2017 by the alliance’s General Assembly, sources have told the Nyamilepedia today.

A source from the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance told the Nyamilepedia this morning that a General from the National Security service came and ordered the reinstatement of the former alliance boss after more than a year out of the office.

“Last Monday one of the generals from the national security came with Akuoch together and many forces were deployed around the office; then the General said that it is an order from the Presidential Security Advisor who said that this office of Alliance should be given to an SPLM member and that is why they brought Akuoch who is a director in the SPLM secretariat,” the source told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon on the condition of anonymity.

Another source from the National Civil Society Alliance told the Nyamilepedia a similar version of the incident saying a group of officers and soldiers from the political department of the national security besieged the office and ordered the installment of Akouch as the leader.

“In the morning on Monday, the office of the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance was surrounded by some men, who came in uniforms and guns from National security particularly political division, military intelligence personnel, and one police officer from operation department with his force breaking the office of South Sudan Civil Society Alliance, handed over the office to the former chairperson for South Sudan civil Alliance,” the other source said.

The same source said the imposed leader was impeached by the alliance on May 23rd 2017 on charges of corruption, embezzlement of the alliance’s fund and assets and political interests.

“He was dismissed due to corruption, mismanagement of the assets of Alliance and lost of direction and objectives of the Alliance,” he said.

He said being a director for the SPLM party headquarters in Juba doesn’t give the right to be the head of the civil society alliance saying the later was appointed the head of the civil society alliance just to oversee elections in 2015 but decided to stay on.

“Mr .Akuoch Ajang Nyanhom is director at the SPLM National Secretariat Headquarter in Juba. He is the director in the secretariat for external affairs but that doesn’t give him any right to be the member of civil society. He was illegally appointed as the chairperson for steering committee for six months in 2015, in which his term of references was to conduct election only,” the source further said.

Efforts by the Nyamilepedia to contact Ajang were unsuccessful.
