May 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s opposition National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin on Thursday condemned the killing of two prominent opposition members, Dong Samuel Luak, a human rights lawyer, and Aggrey Iddri, a senior member of the SPLM-IO.
On Tuesday, a United Nations panel of investigators concluded in their report that the two men were kidnapped from the neighboring Kenya, brought to Juba and then killed near Luri on the orders of South Sudan’s head of National Security Service (NSS), General Akol Koor.
The release of the report ended almost two-year hopes that the two men maybe alive.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the NDM spokesperson, David Lawrence Lual said his group condemns the killing and called on the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit to bring to account all those involved in their demise.
“We condemn and denounce in strongest terms possible the barbaric act of extra judicial execution of Molana Dong Samuel and Aggrey Idri and any other POWs and political detainees,” partly read the statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.
“We call on the government of South Sudan to bring to book the culprits and the collaborators and let the justice prevail. As we also call on the Kenyan government to take action against those who helped in kidnapping them from the Kenyan land,” the statement added.
The statement further urged the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit to release all the political detainees as per the revitalized peace agreement signed by the parties in September 2018 in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
“We reiterate our position on the matter of immediate release of all POWs and political detainees the R-ARCSS entails,” the statement said.
