May 10, 2022 — The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Minister of Labor and Public Service renounced his portfolio last Friday; however, denies having any issue with either the state or national government.
Charles Chan Anguei, who was appointed to office by President Salva Kiir on February 22, 2021, told media on Monday that he quit for personal reasons because he intends to pursue postgraduate studies.
“I already informed the governor that I wanted to be out of the government because I want to go and attend to my personal matters which include studying for a master’s degree,” Chan told media on Monday.
According to the former minister, he formally informed his governor and therefore he believes he has no problem with the governor and the government.
“So, we have been discussing it and he (governor) is aware of it, there is no problem and I just left the government in good faith. I do not have any problem with the governor or government.”, he added.
The outgoing minister calls on his yet to be appointed successor to make sure he or she corporates with the cabinet, governor and works for the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.
“My message to the person who will replace me is to ensure that he works in collaboration with the governor, cabinet, and the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal to ensure that the public services are effectively delivered to the people,” Chan advised.
The State Information and Communication Minister, William Anyuon Kuol, said the government and SPLM party will nominate a successor to replace the outgoing minister.
“Yes, the minister of labor has resigned. When somebody quits a job, automatically he needs to be replaced so the government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal led by Tong Akeen will appoint another person to the place of the outgoing minister,” Minister Anyoun said.
According to State spokesman, the process is that the party recommends another person and the name will be taken to the president for appointment.
