Mundari community peace conference concludes in the capital, Juba.

January 16, 2022 — A three consecutive-days peace and reconciliation conference held by the Mundari community in the capital, Juba, concluded on Thursday, December 13, 2022.

The conference was attended by More than 300 stakeholders including church leaders, traditional chiefs, intellectuals, county commissioners, youth leaders, and other state executives.

The peace and reconciliation conference was held under the theme, “May they all be one. John 17: 21”.

The event was organized by the Church Leaders Peace Initiative under sponsorship of UNMISS and its partners and it was meant to reconcile Mundari communities in order to realize sustainable peace among themselves.

Speaking ahead of the conference on Wednesday, the program coordinator of Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative in South Sudan said “The conference is going to analyze conflict-related matters in the Mundari land and present homegrown solutions to the problems.”

Meanwhile, the Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria Province and co-chair at the conference, Paul Yugusuk, called on the Mundari community to love peace and reconciliation.

“Let them be part of this peace and we should not experience any form of conflict, no retaliation. People should be calm because peace has come and God himself has already intervened,”Archbishop Paul told media on Wednesday.

For his part, the Terekeka County Commissioner, James Lino, reiterated the calls for peace to reign among Mundari community.

“We want peace, we don’t want to go back to conflict”,Commissioner Lino said.

According to top local official, anyone who had issues with anyone should forgive each other because they  are all in a new year and the new year comes with new changes, adding that “we to forgive ourselves as the Mundari community,”
