MTN network reopens in Bentiu after nearly 7 years

January 27th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The MTN mobile network has been reopened in South Sudan’s Bentiu town after nearly seven years since the outbreak of the ongoing civil war, residents said on Monday.

One resident told Nyamilepedia from Rubkona country that the network was reopened on Sunday and that those using MTN sim cards were reachable at the time of speaking to Nyamilepedia.

“The network is working now as I am speaking to you,” he said. “The MTN has been reopened and we are so happy that we will now be able to be contacted by our relatives in Sudan and Uganda.”

Another Facebook user wrote on his Facebook timeline confirmed that the network which was closed following the eruption of war in December 2013 has been reopened.

“Very big thanks to MTN Company for opening MTN network in Unity State Bentiu,” the South Sudanese Facebooker said.
