In a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia, Gen. Kuol Diem Kuol, the Chief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area says 70 Missiriya attacked Miodol of Rumamer County, east of Abyei town where one person was injured and more than four innocent civilians lost their lives including one from the side of attackers.

” Today, 2nd January 2022, around 5:45 am, about seventy Ajara Missiriya militiamen attacked the village of Miodol of Rumamer County East of Abyei Town.

” The attack claimed the lives of five (5) innocent civilians and one civilian wounded, one from the side of attackers was killed and UNISFA forces in Mariel Achaak captured (11) militiamen at the scene of the crime”, the statement reads.

The chief administrator Kuol condemned what he termed as repeated attacks by the Sudan Armed Forces and Missiriya on innocent civilians.

“The administration and people of Special Abyei Administrative Area, seriously condemn repeated attacks by Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Ajaira Missiriya Militiamen on innocent civilians”, the statement added.

The Chief Administrator demanded that the 11 arrested criminals should be handed over to them to be tried at Abyei court because he doubts that Sudanese authorities will make a fair Administration of justice for the victimized families.

“We appeal to UNISFA to hand over the arrested (11) criminals to face justice in Abyei Area Court, because once they are handover to Sudanese authorities they will be released without taking them to court”, Chief Kuol added in a statement.

He also urged the government of South Sudan to put such incidents on Abyei to an end.

Chief Kuol also appeals to UN General Secretariat to suspend the planned replacement of Ethiopian forces in UNISFA because of the current crisis in Sudan.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of our martyrs in Miodol attack and wish quick recovery to the wounded”, Kuol says.

It’s not the first time for Missiriya militias to carry out attacks on innocent civilians in Abyei. Within the last 7 months, the missiriya armed militia killed more than 20 people including chiefs.
