In an open letter on Thursday, Mary Lodira thanked the first Vice president for trusting and believing in her.

“I would, therefore, like to take this opportunity to first thank H.E Dr. Riek Machar, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of SPLA/MIO and the First Vice-President of the Republic of South Sudan for trusting and believing in me, for the second time, and appointing me as the Deputy Governor for the greatest state in the Republic of South Sudan; Eastern Equatoria State!” she wrote.

“I have accepted the appointment with honor and humility and ready to take the challenge. Thank you, Comrade; and I appreciate the move,” she continued.

Mary also thanked the president for accepting her nomination and adhering to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (RARCISS).

“I would also like to extend my great appreciation to H.E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, for accepting my nomination and that of my colleagues in SPLA/M-IO as Deputy Governors of various states in the Republic of South Sudan. I applaud President Kiir for adhering to the provision of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan +(RARCISS) text that says each stakeholder to the agreement shall nominate their candidates to the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU),” she said.

“This is a positive step towards the implementation of the agreement. The R-ARCISS is the only document that spells out a roadmap for relative peace in the Republic of South Sudan,” she added.

The newly appointed deputy governor took her time to thank the residents of Eastern Equatoria State for their support.

She promised to work with all of them regardless of their political, ethnic/tribal and religious affiliations for the simple denominator that Eastern Equatoria State belongs to us all, and I will be a Deputy Governor for all.
