Malong in talks with Kiir over possible return to Juba: sources

October 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former Army Chief of Geneal Staff, Gen. Paul Malong Awan is reportedly in talks with President Salva Kiir Mayardiit in hope to end personal differnces and possibly return to the nation’s capital Juba after almost one year in exile, several sources told the Nyamilepedia on Sunday.

One source told the Nyamilepedia from Nairobi that Malong had met a delegation by President Salva Kiir on Friday and discussed how the two could built trust and recommit to working together again.

“A group from President Salva Kiir came here on Friday. The met Gen. Malong who has been here since November 2017 and informed him that President Salva Kiir want him return home and rebuilt relationship for the sack of peace,” the source said.

The same source added that the delagation compose of senior members of the Jieng Council of Elders (JCE), a tribal body manning an advisory role for President Salva Kiir Mayardiit to ensure that Dinka interest is guaranteed.

Another source however said the delegation never outline the terms under which Gen. Malong can return to Juba saying they how to buy valtrex online noticed that the President did not want to engage with them in a more publicized talks with the former army general.

“The terms of Malong’s return were not clear when we were informed by the delegation. What we have known is that the President I think is not interested in engage in a more publicized talks with the SSUF/A,” the source told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.

Malong has been a close ally of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit until the later dismissed him as the top army commander following security reports against him which suggested that he was planning to host President  Salva Kiir from power to instal himself.

Malong was angered by the dismissal then fled the capital Juba heading to his hometown Aweil when he was stopped at Yirol by the SPLA and forcefully returned to Juba where he remain under house arrest until the JCE secured his release after convincing President Salva Kiir pto release him on health grounds.

Malong left teh capital to seek medical treatment in Kenya and in March this year, he formed a armed opposition group joining the “Salva Kiir Must Go” slogan, a motive widely popular among the SPLM-IO supporters.
