December 4th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former army chief General Paul Malong Awan and Dickson Gatluak Joak, the former spokesman of SPLA-IO forces under First Vice-President Taban Deng Gai, have merged their groups under one umbrella to fight the government in Juba.

The merger agreement signed this afternoon – according to a document seen by the Nyamilepedia – would see the Federal Unionists Liberation Front (FULF/A) led by Gatluak to absorb into Malong’s South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) to forge a stronger position in fighting the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

“The purpose of this agreement is to confirm the politico-military determination between the parties to achieve lasting and enduring peace within the borders of South Sudan through their military and political merger,” the agreement obtained by Nyamilepedia partly reads.

“Pursuant to the parties decision to enhance the aforementioned mutual interest, leadership and command talks were held among other things and the said parties agreed unanimously to merge as one robust or organization with determined politico-military leadership and after this amalgamation shall fall under the name “South Sudan United Front/Army ” in order to achieve timely preparedness in making the movement a solid entity capable of removing the Juba regime,” it added.

The agreement said based on the agreement, officials from the FULF officials “shall be appointed into” positions as they agreed during talks held in the Kenyan capital Nairobi during last month.
