September 11th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former SPLA Chief of General Staff General Paul Malong Awan, has been discharged from a Nairobi hospital almost a week after having been taken to the hospital.
Malong last week complained of facing difficulty in breathing and was rushed to a hospital in Nairobi.
Sources told the Nyamilepedia that Malong has been finally released from the hospital on Monday evening after his doctor advised him to go free following an improvement of his health.
“Gen. Paul Malong has been discharged from the hospital. His health has improved within the last one week and he will continue with his normal political duties,” one source told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.
Malong who is currently the Chairman and Commander in Chief of the South Sudan United Front (SSUF) fall out with his long-time ally President Salva Kiir Mayardiit who dismissed him in May 2017.
Malong then fled the capital Juba heading to his hometown Aweil but was stopped at Yirol by the SPLA and was forcefully returned to the capital Juba and remained under detention until November 2017 after a group of the Jieng Council of Elders (JCE) convinced President Kiir to release him on humanitarian grounds.
Malong went to Nairobi and in March 2018 he formed a rebel group accusing President Salva Kiir of looting the country to bankruptcy.
