January 16th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s holdout opposition group, South Sudan United Front (SSUF), led by Gen. Paul Malong Awan has declared ceasefire agreement with the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
This come days after the group – along three other holdout opposition groups – signed the Rome Declaration in which the parties recommitted to a ceasefire agreement signed in December 2017.
“I Gen. Paul Malong Awan, hereby order for immediate disengagement from any active combat commencing from 00:00 AM last night and thereafter should be maintained throughout the period leading to achievement of sustainable peace,” Malong wrote in the order seen by Nyamilepedia.
“All the sector commanders (1, 2, 3) are ordered to ensure that the cessation of hostility as provided by Rome Declaration of January 12th 2020 is respected comprehensively in all sectors and Division commanders must be enlightened on this timely for effectiveness of the order,” he said.
He further ordered all his forces to “remain in their position and they should not engage in any combat accept on self-defense when deemed necessary.”
