February 25th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Information Minister, Michael Makuei Lueth, urged on Saturday Bor citizens to forgive rebels who did bad things to them and not to look at them as rebels.
Makuei was speaking during a peace rally organized by a join team of South Sudan politicians from the government and opposition which travel to the Upper Nile town on Saturday.
The team led by Presidential Advisor Daniel Awet Akot also include the SPLM-IO Chairperson of National Committee for Foreign Relations, Stephen Par Kuol as well as the Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth.
The team also involved South Sudan’s Defense Minister, Kuol Manyang Juuk, Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Awut Deng Achuil, Minister of Agriculture and Food Secuirty, Onyoti Adigo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau and the Buma State governor, David Yau Yau.
Bor, the state capital of former Jonglei state was one of the major towns in the greater Upper Nile region that experienced the devastative effects of the ongoing civil war that have changed hand several times between government and opposition troops.
Speaking during the peace rally, South Sudan information minister Michael Makuei Lueth urged the citizens of Bor to forgive opposition groups who have joined the government for peace implementation.
“I urge all of you to please forgive your brothers and sisters who did bad things to you. Don’t look at them like they are rebels, look at them as your brothers,” Makuei said.
“I also urge you to forgive some of your brothers that came and caused destruction to this place last time,” Makuei added refering to people he did not named.
Meanwhile, Peter Mayen, who is a member of the National Pre-transitional Committee and a opposition leader said peace is finally here in Bor although everything, for example the rebellion, began in Bor.
“Everything began here in Bor and today peace is here in Bor. You are people of history and today we are certain that peace is here at last,” Mayen said.
