June 22nd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s hard speaker information minister Michael Makuei Lueth said in a remarks aired by the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation that South Sudan’s government under Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardiit want his arch-rival Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon who was released from a illegal detention in South Africa by the IGAD on Wednesday to return to detention after the face-to-face meeting.
“We (government) don’the want Juba to be deserted. We want our people to live in peace and harmony. Riek Machar should wait for elections and that is our position,” Mr. Makuei told the SSBC on Thursday.
Makuei disclosed that the South Sudanese leader agreed with the Ethiopia prime minister who hosted the face-to-face meeting that as soon as the meeting end, Machar will return to South Africa.
“When President Salva Kiir agreed that Riek Machar should come here, the agreement between him and Ethiopi’s Prime Minister is that as soon as they finish the meeting, Riek Machar goes back to South Africa,” Makuei revealed.
Makuei said as it seems to the government that Machar’s status is still under discussionby the regional body, the government wI’ll wait until the region say their final position on this regard.
“But as of now, his status seems to be under discussion now by the summit, so we will know what the final position of the summit is. But our position has been that if tlhe is not going to South Africa, then he should be in one of the state’ that is not a member of the IGAD and not neighboring South Sudan,” Makuei said.
Sources told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday that President Kiir and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar agreed to share power under a revised but in a similar version of the previous government.
Should that be true, it would be unclear why the government reiterated a position that seems to be derailing the peace process.
