February 4th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – A visit to Juba scheduled for today by the main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has been cancelled by the regional body, IGAD, a spokesman for Machar said on Tuesday.

Machar would have visited Juba today to continue talks with President Salva Kiir on the outstanding issues, particularly, but not limited to the number and boundaries of states.

This comes as deadline for a unity government formation approaches.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, SPLM-IO director of information and public relations Puok Both Baluang said the regional body has cancelled Machar’s visit to Juba due to arrangements by the region to convene a meeting of the parties in Addis Ababa over the contentious issue of the states.

“The visit by the Chairman to Juba has been cancelled by the IGAD,” Baluang said. “Instead, the regional body will convene a meeting of the parties in Addis Ababa.”

Baluang further said that a date is still to be set for the meeting but said the meeting “will take place this week.”
