October 3,2021 —The leadership of the breakaway opposition group of Kitgwang faction under the SPLA-IO former Chief of Staff 1st. Lt. Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual has began its peace negotiations with the Transitional Government of South Sudan in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
This comes less than two weeks after the ring leaders of the Kitgwang Declaration Gen. Gatwech and his Deputy Gen. Johnson Olony publicly called on President Kiir to send them his men to renegotiate their reintegration into the national army in lieu of the long awaited security arrangements.
Speaking during the peace conference in Khartoum yesterday, the presidential advisor on security affairs, Hon. Tut Gatluak Manime said Sudan is the IGAD that is responsible for peace files of South Sudan.
“We came to you in order to tell you the message of peace from President and you have to sit and negotiate with us for to have stability”, Gatluak said in a recorded video.
The senior presidential advisor asked ring leaders of Kitgwang faction to bring their peace delegation and present them to peace mediator adding that the country needs stability, peace and security and as such any sort of violence must be discouraged.
” You have to present your view to Sudan which is midwife of South Sudan peace, we have to present our views also to mediator and then from there we shall talk. We want peace implementation of the peace agreement, stability and security in South Sudan”, he added.
In his part, Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of Kitgwang Declaration, Gen. Simon Gatwech said he is a man of peace 100% and he is ready to send his peace delegation for peace talks.
” I am man of peace, I am man of peace 100%,secondly I am very happy when government delegation of South Sudan arrived in Khartoum and this is the beginning, and beginning is very important, beginning and the last are what determines the second of every peace process “, Gen. Simon Gatwech said.
He said he accepted peace talks and will prepare his negotiating team anytime.
” I accept to negotiate with you, my peace delegation will negotiate with you “, Gen. Gatwech added.
It is not clear whether or not the two senior leaders of Kitgwang are negotiating on their free will or they are under pressure from the two governments in Khartoum and Juba given the recent plans by the two Sudans to open their border where Kitgwang faction has a significant presence.
