Oct 17, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– While Salva Kiir government has approached some countries including South Africa to seek asylum for their opponent, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, in order to keep him away from South Sudan, Machar wonders of who really came up with such an idea to try to prevent him from entering South Sudan.
Machar said his opponents do not control his movements in and outside the country and therefore he can decides to live anywhere in “liberated areas” in any of the three regions of South Sudan.

Unlike in the past wars where his movements were limited to Upper Nile region, Machar boasts that he controls areas in Greater Bhar el Ghazal, Greater Equatoria and Greater Upper Nile and he can decide to live with his troops in either of the three regions.
In addition to having strongholds in the interior of the three regions of South Sudan, Machar’s forces control parts of all main borders with the seven neighboring countries which include Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, DRC, Central Africa Republic, Kenya and Congo.
“Who can control my going back to South Sudan?”
In a different interview with TVC Nigeria, Machar reiterates that “an asylum is an individual right” that does not need an opponent to negotiate it.
“You know the right of a person to request asylum is an individual right. ” Machar said.
Not Seeking Political asylum
Questioned by journalists if he is seeking a political asylum, Machar denies the allegations and assures that he has responsibilities in South Sudan that he must carry out.
“No, no, I’m not in South Africa to seek asylum. I’m in South Africa to have a medical check-up, a routine medical check-up. I have no desire to request a political asylum” Machar said.
“I have responsibilities in South Sudan that I must carry out” He continued.
“I lead the SPLM and SPLA-IO, it is a political military movement. It controls alot of areas in South Sudan and I believe nearly half of the areas are control by this movement” Machar further explains.
“I have to administer it. There is no any reason why I should go for political asylum. I can live in South Sudan until when a peace agreement is resuscitated” Machar strongly emphasizes.
