Machar’s faction regrets no more peace will be negotiated just because of new defections

Juba, South Sudan

August 12, 2021—A leading member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army  in opposition (SPLM/A-IO), who is loyal to South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, said the 2018 peace deal will not be renegotiated just because some leaders have defected from SPLM/A-IO.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Dut Majongdit, a member of the SPLM-IO Liberation Council says the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) will not be revised because of the recent defection of the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chairman, Hon. Henry Odwar.

“For those who think that, the Peace Agreement that we are Implementing here in Juba will be renegotiated due to the defections from SPLM/A-IO, please Convinced yourself. People of South Sudan want Genuine and Sustainable Peace for themselves and their families”, Majongdit said in a statement.

“We have one Chairman and one Commander in Chief His Excellency Dr Riek Machar, First Vice President in the country. If there are others who entitled themselves to be Chairman, Good luck for them. But what I know the SPLM-IO is determined to Change Political Path”,the statement added.

According to the statement, the R-ARCSS is the only viable option and solution for the current situation in the country, to achieve a sustainable peace and development.
