February 16th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has welcomed yesterday’s decision by President Salva Kiir Mayardit to return the country back to the previous 10 states, but raised concerns over the new administration areas Kiir created.
On Saturday morning, Kiir issued a surprise decision to annul the controversial 32 states and returned the country back to 10 states, a major demand of opposition groups paving way for possibility to form the long-awaited unity government.
“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) would like to appreciate the decision of the Presidency to revert to the ten states and their respective previous counties,” SPLM-IO chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny said in a statement dated February 15th.
The main armed opposition leader however said that his groups was “concerned of the creation of three administrative areas urging Kiir “to reconsider this idea of creating administrative areas as this opens up another Pandora box defeating the purpose of reverting to ten sțates.”
