September 29th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny will travel to the capital Juba in October, a senior government official has said.
Tutkew Gatluak, the Presidential Advisor on Security and head of the National Pre-transitional Committee (NPTC), told journalists in Khartoum on Friday that the First Vice-President designate will travel to Juba in mid October.
“Dr. Riek will visit Juba in October and meet H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss the formation of the revitalize peace agreement,” Gatluak said.
Machar and Kiir signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last year to end the war.
The agreement named Machar in person to take up the position of the First Vice-President in a unity government where the incumbent President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, remains as president.
Last week, Kiir said he may form the government without Machar should his group fail to cooperate on the demand in question.
