October 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s exiled opposition leader and First Vice President designate Dr. Riek Machar is expected to return to Juba on Sunday to take part in meetings with UN Security Council delegation, an opposition figure said.
Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, the SPLM-IO deputy chairperson for National Committee for Information and Public Relations was quoted by Radio Tamazuj as saying Machar will return to Juba on Sunday.
“Dr. Machar,” Manawa said. “is expected to attend the meeting in Juba on Sunday.”
Manawa added that the high level meetings with the UN Security Council “will focus on the implementation of the peace agreement and the outstanding issues.”
The world body’s mission to South Sudan said early this week that the UN Security Council will visit Juba to meet with President Salva Kiir Mayardit and other signatories to the revitalized peace agreement to discuss pending tasks meant to be implemented before formation of unity government on November 12.
There is currently dispute on the number of states which is a subject of land dispute between tribes who say their land was given to other ethnic groups by a 2016 order from the president dividing the country into 28 – then 32 – states.
Kiir wants the issue solved after formation of unity government while opposition groups such as Machar’s SPLM-IO and Dr. Lam Akol’s NDM wants the matter solved before the action on unity government formation is formed.
The world body is calling for resolution of the dispute on the states before unity government is formed while urging the parties to form the government on time.
