December 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny will – tomorrow – meet South Africa’s vice-president David Mabuza on the contentious issue of the states, a spokesman allied to him said Thursday.

Early this month, Mabuza convened a consultative meeting of the South Sudan parties to the agreement on the issue of the number and boundaries of the states which has been thorny throughout the peace process becoming one of the many issues hampering efforts to form a unity government provided for in the revitalized peace agreement.

The parties failed to agree on how many states should be in the country and the South African-led mediation decided to give a ten-day break for the parties to consult their leaders on how to resolve the issue.

On Thursday, Mabuza traveled to Khartoum where he met chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on the South Sudan peace process. He was early in Uganda where he discussed with with President Museveni the peace process.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Thursday evening, SPLM-IO director of information and public relations Puok Both Baluang said Machar will on Friday meet Mabuza to discuss the number and boundaries of states.

“The Chairman will be meeting tomorrow the David Mabuza, the South African Deputy President on the issue of the states and their boundaries,” he told Nyamilepedia from South Sudan’s capital Juba.
