Machar returns to Khartoum after signing final revitalized ARCISS

September 13th 2013 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice-president designate Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has returned to the Sudanese capital Khartoum from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa after signing the final revitalized peace agreement with his arch-foe President Salva Kiir Mayardiit on Wednesday.

The deal which was also signed by other opposition groups including the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) will establish a transitional government of national unity within eight month from yesterday.

South Sudan’s rebel group National Salvation Front (NAS) led by former SPLA deputy chief of staff Gen. Thomas Cirilo and People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) led by Dr. Hakim Dario abstained saying it does not address core issues they raised during the negotiations in Khartoum.

Machar was accompanied by his wife Angelina Jany Teny and the rest of his delegation when they arrived in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Thursday evening.

South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 following a flareup of fighting within the South Sudan’s Presidential guards igniting a an ethnic massacre in the capital Juba.
