Machar, religious leaders discuss peace process

August 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has today, Friday, met a team of top clerics from South Sudan’s Council of Churches (SSCC) in Addis Ababa, sources close to him said.

The team, according to a Nyamilepedia source in Addis Ababa, was led by retired Bishop of Torit Paride Taban among other senior clerics.

“SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar has met a delegation of South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) led by Paride Taban,” the source said from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“They discussed the ongoing peace process as well as pushed for a meeting between President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek,” the source added.

The source said the religious leaders called for a “urgent implementation of revitalized peace agreement signed by the parties in September 2018.
