August 24,2021—The First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar Teny has today on 24th of August 2021 graced the launch of the Leadership Retreat for the State Ministers of Peace Building and State Chairpersons of Peace Commissions under the theme “Towards Inclusive Peace Building Strategic for South Sudan ” at Juba Grand Hotel.
According to the press Unit of the First Vice President, the launching conference was attended by Hon. Stephen Par Kuol, Minister of Peace Building, Hon. Angelina Teny, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Hon. Lasuba L. Wango, Minister of Federal Affairs, Hon. Mary Nawai Martin, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Guang Cong, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nation and Deputy Head of UNMISS, State Ministers of Peace Building and State Chairpersons of Peace Commissions; members of Diplomatic Corps and Mission in South Sudan among other stakeholders of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
The conference was organized under the auspices of National Ministry of Peace Building with an aim to develop an inclusive strategic framework for peace building in South Sudan which is scheduled for five years.
In his speech, Dr Machar acknowledged the challenges facing the process of Peace Building in the country especially the inter-communal violence, youth violence in urban centers, lack of budget and lack of political will to implement the security arrangement.
“His Excellency the First Vice President urges the participants in the conference to disseminate peace and to involve Chiefs, Women and Youth in the process of building and maintaining peace in their respective states”, the statement reads.
Machar emphasized that the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity is working tirelessly hard to resolve the areas of differences in order to fast-track the formation of Unified Command, graduation and deployment of the Unified Forces.
