Machar praises fallen opposition commander and ex-governor

December 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has praised fallen opposition commander and former governor.

On Tuesday, former SPLM-IO governor of Adar state Gen. Sadam Chayot Manyang died in the Sudanese capital Khartoum of liver cancer.

In a statement this morning, Machar confirmed his death and praised him as a hero for his role in the Liberation war which resulted in South Sudan’s 2011 independence.

“Lt. Gen. Sadam Chayuot Manyang Wuor has passed on yesterday 17/12/2019 at 8:45 PM in Doctor’s Clinic, Khartoum, Sudan. He died of liver cancer. The body of Gen. Sadam Chayuot Manyang Wuor shall be flown to Longechuk, Adar state for burial,” Machar said.

He describes General Chayot as “a hero of struggle for Self-Determination and Independence of South Sudan as well as of the current struggle for Federalism and Reform in the Republic of South Sudan.”

“On Behalf of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) and the South Sudanese people, I convey our deep condolences to his family and to all members of SPLM/SPLA (IO) on the passing on of this hero. May God rest his soul in eternal peace. He will be missed by all.”
