October 6th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has not yet been invited to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, an opposition spokesman allied to Machar said Sunday.
Last month, Machar, a powerful figure in South Sudan’s political arena and an important figure in the 2018 peace agreement wrote to members of his group notifying them of an important meeting due in Addis Ababa between him and members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
According to the circular seen by Nyamilepedia, Machar said the UNSC called him for a meeting to be held in Addis Ababa and then the world body would accompany him to Juba where he will meet President Salva Kiir Mayardit on pending issues.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Sunday, the SPLM-IO director of information and public relations Puok Both Baluang said Machar has not yet been officially invited and so it was unclear when he will travel to Ethiopia.
“He has not been officially invited [to Addis Ababa],” he told the Nyamilepedia from the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
