Juba, South Sudan
March 24, 2022 — South Sudan’s main opposition leader and First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has appointed a new youth leader to replace a position that has been vacant for more than two years.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Dr. Machar reconstituted his party leadership and named Cde. Jackson Charles Wani as the new Chairman for the SPLM-IO Youth League.
Prior to his appointment, Wani served as Secretary-General for the SPLM-IO Youth League in the former youth league leadership.
Despite that the incoming youth league chairperson hardly perform in his previous position, Cde. Wani got reasonable supports on his appoitment as some members of the Youth League believe that he would achieve more than his predecessor Puot Kang Chol who faced a lot of criticism for “sleeping on the job”.
In a statement, Dr. Riek Machar also reappointed the Chairperson of the specialized committee for Youth and Sports at Reconstituted Transitional Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) Cde. Gai Mayen Luk as the Chairperson of the SPLM-IO Student League.
Until December 2021, the current minister, Hon. Puot Kang Chuol, has been the youth league chairperson despite that he was appointed a minister; however, in December Dr. Machar asked Kang to step aside saying he is no longer a youth and his age does not allow him to continue serving the youth.
