Machar joins world leaders to mourn after Ex-UN Chief died

August 19th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice-President designate and leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO), Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon on Saturday world leaders to send condolences after the death of the former UN Secretary-General Koffi Annan.

Former U.N. Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan died on Saturday at the age of 80, his foundation said, after decades of championing efforts to try to end protracted conflicts in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Annan, who died in the early hours of Saturday hospital in Bern, Switzerland, was the first black African to be the world’s top diplomat.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the SPLM-IO Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon send his condolence to the family of the “exemplary” leader.

“On behalf of the people of South Sudan and on my own behalf the men and women of SPLM/A(IO), I convey mu condolence to the family of this exemplary African leader on his passing away this day,” Machar wrote.

Machar stressed that the death of Annan is a great lost praising him for lifting Africa to the top of greatness.

“This is a great loss. Mr Annan lifted Africa to the top of greatness in the field of diplomacy. His tireless and immemorial efforts in resolving conflicts worldwide and in Africa particularly in Kenya and Rwanda will always be remembered,” he wrote.

He says his legacy will always shine.

“His legacy also initiating reforms in the UN system particularly on global peace and security will always shine. He will missed enormously,” he said.

Machar further added that “May he rest in eternal peace.”
