May 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Prominent South Sudan opposition and SPLM-IO leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon condemned – on Wednesday – the killing of two prominent opposition members by South Sudan’s security service.

On Tuesday, a UN panel said it has collaborated evidence that strongly support the two men were kidnapped from Kenya and deported to Juba on orders of South Sudan’s security chief, General Akol Koor.

Key details of accounts provided by ‘well-placed’ witnesses and sources led the UN panel doing the investigation to conclude that “Aggrey Idri and Dong Samuel Luak were executed by Internal Security Bureau agents at the Luri facility on 30 January 2017, on orders from the commander of the National Security Service training and detention facilities in Luri, the Commander of the National Security Service Central Division and, very aptly, Lieutenant General Akol Koor Kuc,”

“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) leadership condemns this barbaric act,” Machar said in a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday.

Machar who is also the country’s First Vice-President also urged the United Nations Security Council to refer the extra-judicial killing to the International Criminal Court, saying his group will also seek justice at African Court of Justice.

“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) calls upon the UN Security Council to refer the matter to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute those involved in this crime,” Machar said in the statement.

“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) is also taking this case to the Court of Justice of the African Union. The SPLM/SPLA (IO reiterates its call on the AU for the immediate establishment of the Hybrid Court of South Sudan (HBCSS),” he added.

He said his group was “shocked and saddened on learning of the details of the regime’s extrajudicial execution by firing squad of comrades Aggrey Ezboni Idris, Chairperson of National Committee of Humanitarian Affairs and member of SPLM/SPLA (IO) Political Bureau, and Human Rights Lawyer Dong Samuel Thot who was once the Chairperson of the South Sudan Law Society former Deputy Chairperson of National Committee for Human Rights and Justice who were kidnapped on 23rd – 24th January 2017 from Nairobi, Kenya.”
