May 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, is in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to take part in the IGAD meeting set for today, an opposition spokesman told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.
Currently, there is disagreement between South Sudan government and opposition groups on whether the transitional government of national unity stipulated for in the revitalized peace deal signed in September last year should be formed or delayed and to try to find a way forward, the IGAD has called for meeting of South Sudan’s rivals in Addis Ababa.
South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, opposition leaders including Dr. Riek Machar were all expected in Addis Ababa to attend the important meeting, but Kiir failed to show up and instead sent his information minister, Michael Makuei Lueth to represent him.
In a brief statement to the Nyamilepedia, the SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations, Puok Both Baluang told the Nyamilepedia that Machar travelled to Addis Ababa on Wednesday to attend the meeting set to discuss peace implementation.
“Yes, Cde [comrade] Chairman, (Dr. Riek Machar Teny), left [Khartoum] for Addis Ababa yesterday evening,” Baluang said.
Another opposition official in Addis Ababa confirmed to the Nyamilepedia this morning Machar arrival saying he is accompanied senior opposition members including his wife, Angelina Teny.
