Juba, South Sudan
August 20, 2021—The First Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon and Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Abdallah Hamdok have held two consecutive meetings on the implementation of the peace process.
In their meetings, Machar raised lot of concerns and challenges hindering the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, one of which is the rejection of his nominee to the deputy ministry of interior by President Salva Kiir Mayardit which Machar believes is a violation of the power sharing agreement.
In a statement extended to Nyamilepedia, Dr. Machar meets Hamdok and his accompanying team today and yesterday at his office and discussed power-sharing Agreements on the Administrative Areas and appointment of the SPLM-IO nominee, Nyanagwek Kuol to the position of Deputy Ministry of Interior as well as the implementation of the Security Arrangements which is the most crucial provision and corner stone in the revitalized peace agreement.
“The First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, His Excellency Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon held two meetings in his office on 19 and 20 August 2021, with His Excellency Dr. Abdallah Hamdok, Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan and his accompanying delegation who arrived in Juba on August 19,2021”, the statement says.
“The two meetings discussed in detail the critical issues of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) mainly; the implementation of the Security Arrangements, the Power-sharing Agreements on the Administrative Areas and appointment of the SPLM/A (IO) nominee to the position of Deputy Minister of Interior whose nomination was submitted the President Salva Kiir Mayardit on February 1st, 2021”, the statement added.
The mandate of the Revitalized Agreement on Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) signed in 2018 will expire on date 12 next month and so far the signatories to the agreement stuck on chapter only leaving the entire agreement unimplemented and the situation of South Sudanese citizens hasn’t improved yet.
