Juba, South Sudan
December 18, 2021 — The former Spokesperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM-IO) Cpt. Mabior Garang De Mabior has revealed that there is what he called “Kitchen cabinet”, who are working hard to push out those with ideas in the movement.
Mabior Garang defected from the SPLM-IO four months ago and joined the Kitgwang Declaration led by the SPLA-IO former chief of General Staff Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual over what he termed as lack of clear direction from the leader of the movement.
In an extensive interview with Journalist Jean Aborcup, Mabior said the problem within the opposition group is because there is a “Kitchen cabinet”, which has volunteered itself to force out those with positive ideas to advance the movement.
“The problem in the SPLM-IO is because there is kitchen cabinet whose role is to kick out the Cadres with ideas”, Mabior said during the interview.
When asked whether or not the two principals called him when he resigned from Deputy Ministry of Interior, Mabior said he was neither called by president Kiir nor by his former Chairman Dr. Riek Machar despite several memo he wrote to Machar.
“None of them called me, my former Chairman Dr. Riek Machar did not called me despite number of memo I wrote to him”, Mabior added.
When Mabior resigned from the ministry of interior he accused the elements he described as “mafias” within the ranks and files of the SPLM-IO for controlling the signature of the SPLM-IO Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny and influencing his decisions in the movement.
In November Mabior was invited by President Kiir to Juba and was asked by Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk, Daniel Awet Akot and other senior SPLM members to join the SPLM under Salva Kiir Mayardit but Mabior said the conditions in which the SPLM is in right now cannot allow him to join it.
