October 29, 2021—The Former Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mabior Garang De Mabior has today traveled to South Sudanese capital, Juba upon the invitation of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
This comes less than a week after Mabior was seen meeting the South Sudanese Ambassador to Kenya.
In a statement by the Presidential Press Unit, the Press Secretary in the Office of the President Ateny Wek Ateny and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, receives the son of the Late Dr John Garang De Mabior upon arrival at Juba International Airport.
“Mabior Garang De Mabior was in Nairobi Kenya due political reasons returned back to the Country today upon an invitation of H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit for him to return back home”,the statement reads.
The Press Secretary in the office of the President and Deng Dau, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs applauded Mabior’s decision to honor the president’s invitation and described it as “significant gesture of peace”
“Speaking to the media at Juba international Airport, Hon Deng Dau and Ateny Wek Ateny appreciated the son of fallen hero Mabior Garang for accepting the invitation of H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit and described the move as a gesture of peace and harmony”, the statement added.
Mabior Garang rebelled against Salva Kiir administration since 2012 and in 2013 when Dr.Riek Machar was chased out from Juba Mabior decided to join SPLM/A-IO under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny and they have been together until 2020 when Mabior expressed his discontent towards peace and weaknesses of Dr. Riek Machar to face the status quo.
He recently sided with Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual who unilaterally claimed the removal of Dr. Riek Machar Teny as Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement /Army-In-Opposition.
