Mabior Garang resigns from IO Information Desk in protest of “fake peace”

Oct 15, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The SPLM-IO’s National Chairperson for Information and Public Relations, and the former Minister of Interior, Mabior Garang de Mabior, is resigning.

In a resignation letter submitted to the First Vice President, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM in Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the former Deputy Minister cites the same reasons he cited when he resigned from the ministry of interior earlier this year.

“In reference to the above subject, I am writing this memo to inform your Comradeship of my intention to resign from my position of Chairperson for Information and Public Relations.” Cde. Mabior Garang said.

“It has been a great honour serving the peoples’ movement from the time I was the deputy to Comrade Hussein Maar, to the time I was officially appointed as the Chairperson. I have learned a lot.” Mabior continued.

Mabior explains that he is resigning because of “fake implementation of the peace going on in Juba”.

“In light of the fake implementation of peace going on in Juba and our leadership’s claim that peace is being implemented and the situation is improving, I cannot with a clear conscience continue to serve in a constitutional position in the Movement.” Mabior said.

According to Mabior, the spirit of peace died at the beginning of the second peace process in 2017 and as such there is no need to continue claiming to implement a peace agreement that does not exist.

“Since the High Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF) ended and the peace process moved to Khartoum, there has been no credible process. It was dead on arrival – as it were. This is the reason some groups, now negotiating in Rome, refused to sign the Agreement. It was a surrender in disguise.” Mabior said.

Mabior said he was to resign in 2014 when some politicians from the IO-predominant Nuer tribe such as Lul Ruai Koang, who claimed to be more IO than Mabior, tried to push him away; however, he listened to advises from other politicians who ended up defecting from the SPLA-IO.

“As your senior Comradeship is aware, I have been meaning to resign since 2014 when I faced continued sabotage from the leadership, starting with the well documented conspiracy of Gen. Lulu Ruai. However, I was advised by countless Comrades – who have since resigned themselves – not to resign, as my contribution to the struggle was invaluable.” He said.

“I listened to the advice of these Comrades because it was valid. We therefore continued to carry out our duties diligently, even during the times we faced the greatest danger to our very lives. Undoubtedly, what we have done is part of a historical record – no need to mention the details here.” He added.

According to Mabior, who has served as a Minister of Water and deputy minister of interior under the SPLM-IO docket, this resignation is only intended for the top position only.

“I intend to resign only as the National Chairperson for Information and Public Relations and not as a founding member of the Movement.” Mabior declares.

He promises to remain as a member of the SPLM/A-IO

“I shall remain as an ordinary member of the party until such a time the Movement has returned to the business of the peoples’ struggle. I will be ready to take up any assignment when there is call for it.” He added.

Cde. Mabior has served these and other positions within the SPLM/A-IO since 2014 amids health and political challenges that he has been facing for the last seven.

Although he has kept his health challenges private, Mabior has been battling his critics both on the wider internet and also on social media.
