Juba, South Sudan
November 1, 2021– The South Sudan’s Former Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, captain Mabior Garang De Mabior, has met president Salva Kiir and offered a deep political apology to Kiir and the national for his past behaviors.
This comes after Mabior touched down in Juba two days ago following an invitation from President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday.
In a statement by Presidential Press Unit, President Kiir held a meeting with Mabior along with his accompanying team at Presidential Palace today on Monday.
“.. Salva Kiir Mayardit received and held a meeting, with Mabior Garang De Mabior, the son of fallen hero Dr John Garang de Mabior and his accompanying delegation”,Said in a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia.
According to the statement, Mabior Garang De Mabior expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the call to come back home.
Mabior, who has been one of most outspoken opposition Cadres, offered a blanket apology for whatever wrong he might have done to the Nation and President Kiir personally throughout the years.
“Furthermore, Mabior Garang De Mabior apologised to H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the people of South Sudan for any statement that he might have said on the media against H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Nation”,the statement added.
Mabior further said he is going to join hands with the leadership and people of South Sudan to collectively find ways of contributing to peace and stability of the Nation.
In August this year, Mabior Garang joined the military-led declaration of Kitgwang Faction under Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual that claimed to have ousted the FVP Dr. Riek Machar Teny from the leadership of the SPLM/A-IO; however, their defection faced numerous challenges including lack of trust and organization.
Mabior’s return to Juba has been received with mixed feelings; however, the son of the late co-founder of SPLM/A has been through it all over the years being criticized left and right, internally and externally.
