Mabior accuses SPLM-IO led by Dr. Machar over delay in Security Arrangements.

Juba, South Sudan

February 9, 2022 — The former Spokesperson of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition(SPLM-IO) Cpt. Mabior Garang De Mabior accused the leadership of the main armed opposition group of being behind the delayment of the implementation of the crucial provision of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

In a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia, Mabior Garang says the implementation of Security Arrangements which is seen as the cornerstone of the 2018 peace deal is not in prime interest of the country’s second powerful leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

“.. It is the SPLM-IO (Juba), that is responsible for frustrating the implementation of the Security Arrangements. The implementation of Chapter II. PERMANENT CEASEFIRE AND TRANSITIONAL SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS and the implementation of the Agreement in general, is not in the interest of the FVP and the Luak Ltd”, Mabior said in a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia.

According to the former opposition official, the SPLM-IO group led by FVP Dr. Riek Machar has created more impressive and seductive slogans just to confuse the people of South Sudan that they are fighting for a justice and change in the country when in fact they are doing the opposite.

“.. They are now trying to use the concept of “peaceful transfer of power” as their next populist slogan in a long line of slogans to confuse Junubeen. From, “we are fighting corruption”, to “we are democrats”, to “Federalism”, to”give peace a chance”, the latest populist slogan is “peaceful transfer of power”. They do not mean it. It is just a populist slogan like the rest”, Mabior added.

Mabior said the opposition group has lost popularity and the reason as to why they resist election processes is due to fear that they may lose it.

“. The SPLM-IO (Juba) is not interested in peace and stability in our land. They know they are not popular and elections will send them home”, he further elaborated.

The senior opposition critic to SPLM-IO leadership said ” today they are afraid of elections, it only has value as far as it can be used as a populist slogan”.

“.. The barbaric status quo in our country -communal war- is their political economy. They cannot survive without this mischief. There is now an opportunity for implementation of Security Arrangements in the Kit Gwang Declaration. Let us organize and mobilize to send these unpopular misleaders home in 2023”, he further reiterated.

Mabior Garang is one of the founding spokespersons of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition. He relinquished his position from R-TGONU in 2020 in protest of gov’t intransigence to implement the security arrangement in good faith.

Last year he endorsed Kitgwang Declaration, a breakaway faction under SPLA-IO former Chief of Staff Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual that claimed to have ousted Dr. Riek Machar as Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/A-IO; however, Mabior re-defected from Kitgwang shortly thereafter and currently remains undecided on what group to join.
