Mabior accuses Machar’s group of warmongering

Juba, South Sudan

September 11, 2021—The Former Chairperson of the SPLM-IO National Executive Committee for Information and Public Relations, who recently defected to SPLM/A- Kitgwang faction, has accused unnamed politicians of warmongering.

According to Mabior Garang De Mabior, it is not the wish of the Kitgwang supporters and leaders to see the country returning to war but the work of those who circumvented the implementation of the peace agreement.

“The Kit Gwang Declaration stands for no more war. It is those who wish to circumvent the implementation of Security Arrangements who are the real warmongers,” Mabior stated on his Facebook page.

He reiterated that it is “the war warmongers” who are taking advantage of the suffering of innocent civilians by using them against each others in order for them to sustain their status quo.

“They are the architects and beneficiaries of the bloody inter-communal violence in our land, which keeps then in power. The Kit Gwang Declaration will never promote wars for other people’s children to fight,” he added.

Mabior is one of the disgruntled senior opposition members who felt out with the Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of SPLM/A-IO, Dr. Riek Machar in early 2020 although he has been vocal about the “surrendering policies of the SPLM/A-IO” .

Following the internal differences within the IO between the then Chief of General Staff Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual and Dr. Machar, Mabior and some senior members including the Deputy Chairman of the SPLM/A-IO Henry Odwar shifted their political allegiance to Gen. Gatwech Dual.

On August 4th, the Anyanya veteran declared his defection from SPLM/A through Kitgwang Declaration but claimed that he deposed Dr. Machar from the SPLM/A-IO leadership.

Since August the two factions have remained at a loggerhead and clashed a few times in Northern Upper Nile while accusing each other of attacking their positions.

The question of who is warmongering between the two factions remains to be clarified; however, the two factions have lost lives so far as Machar and Gatwech are failing to resolve their differences.
