Sep 19, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — A former South Sudan’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Bapiny Manytuil Wejang, is slowly but steadily gaining momentum in building his faction, the South Sudan Liberation Movement/Army
In the latest press statement extended to Nyamilepedia, Lt. Gen. Bapiny has appointed Samuel Chan Mut Turoah as his press secretary and promoted Michael Lony Puot to the rank of Major General.
“It is with great pleasure to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the supporters and sympathizers of South Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SSLM/A) under wise and able leadership of Lt. Gen Bapiny Manytuil Wejang Wuor regarding my appointment.” Samuel Chan Mut Turoah told Nyamilepedia.
“I would like to appreciate my able Chairman for the trust he bestowed upon me by appointing me as the press secretary and media analyst in his office and from today onwards, I will continue to discharge my duties as authenticated by the chairman and commander in chief of SSLM/A. ” Chan continued.
Lt. Gen. Bapiny visited Mayom County recently after the divided army of Maj. Gen. Mathew Puljang clashed with forces loyal to Dr. Nguen Manytuil, the returning governor of Unity State.
Lt. Gen. Bapiny, who is the elder brother of Dr. Nguen who now doubles as a Lt. General in the army, defected from Salva Kiir government in 2016 over the issue of 28 states that was going to allocate a big shunk of land from Mayom county to Ruweng State.
Before his defection in 2016, Lt. Gen. Bapiny told Salva Kiir in his face that his people’s land will not be given to Dinka Ruweng just because the president is a Dinka.
“Regarding the 28 states, I told the president that our land in Bentiu will never be taken away because you the president happened to be a Dinka. That was when I went to inform him about my going for treantment” Gen. Bapiny told president Salva Kiir.
Lt. Gen. Bapiny blamed his younger brother Nguen for betraying him allegedly by leaking “lies” about him to president Kiir.
“He did that because on the 14th of March, 2016, Nguen the Governor of Unity State lied to them that I was going to declare my intention to join the opposition or the SPLM-IO once [I arrived] in Nairobi” Gen. Bapiny explains.
These are some of the bitter feelings that led to the formation of the South Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SSLM/A) which Lt. Gen. Bapiny is now leading.

Bapiny is a signatory to the revitalized peace agreement; however, actions such as military promotions are considered as violations to the Cessation of the Hostilities and Security Arrangements that Lt. Gen. Bapiny and others signs in December 2017 and June 2018.
