August 6th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Lou-Nuer community said in a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia on Sunday that they commend and support the efforts being exerted by the country’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon to achieve peace.
President Salva Kiir, SPLM-IO leader and South Sudan’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar on Sunday signed the long-awaited final peace deal in the Sudanese capital Khartoum signaling the commitment of the two leaders to end the Africa’s bloodiest conflict.
In the statement dated 5th August 2018, the Lou-Nuer community sad they, alongside the people of South Sudan,stand firm behind Machar and that they fully support the peace deal he and Kiir signed yesterday.
“The Lou Nuer SPLM/A (IO) leaders and the people of Bieh State stand firm behind Dr. Machar and fully support the peace agreement,” they said in the statement.
The powerful South Sudan community praised Machar for his integrity while having the vision to bring peace to South Sudan.
“Dr. Machar has proven that he has the integrity, the vision and the will to bring a lasting peace to South Sudan. Since he was first nominated and confirmed by the SPLM/A (IO) leadership in Nasir conference in 2014, about five years ago as the Chairman and C-in-C of the SPLM/A (IO), Dr. Machar has been an energetic and consistent advocate for peace and freedom for all persons in South Sudan,” the statement said.
They said the Lou-Nuer community share with Machar the vision of a peaceful South Sudan that goes beyond ending the ongoing civil war.
“The Lou Nuer people shares a vision of a peaceful South Sudan that goes beyond just ending the civil war. We, the leaders, and the Bieh State citizens want a peace that will allow the people to form a government that guarantees security, strengthens economy and brings freedom for all,” the statement said.
They said they stand with Machar even in the upcoming elections which is proposed at the end of the would-be transitional government of national unity which will commence eight month beginning from yesterday.
“The Lou Nuer stand behind Dr. Riek Machar Teny and will always be with him in every step throughout the peace implementation and on the way to the 2022’s or in the future elections,” the statement said.
They further urged all the South Sudanese people to follow suit and support the signed peace agreement.
