Juba, South Sudan
August 18, 2021—The Chairman of the Leek Community, Lam Tungwar Kueiguong, has organized a successful fundraising campaign in the capital, Juba, to raise food and non-food items to the flood victims in Rubkona County of Unity State.
According to his press office, Tungwar has been mobilizing support in Juba for the past two weeks in which many senior officials including the First Lady, Mary Ayen Salva Kiir, and Presidential Advisor on Security, Tutkew Gatluak, have donated significantly to help flood victims, mostly the Leek Nuer subtribe of Unity State.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the Chairman of Leek Community, Mr. Lam Tungwar Kueiguong expressed his heart felt appreciation and also acknowledged the tremendous support shown to him by some imminent personalities in the country.
“Leek community worldwide appreciate and thanks H.E Mary Ayen Mayardit, First Lady of the Republic of South Sudan, Hon. Tut Gatluak Manime, security Advisor for presidency and Governor Hon. Dr. Manytuil Wejang Wuor for their love and support to the people of Leek community/Rubkona County”, Leek community Chairman Lam Tungwar stated on banner.
“May God bless you all, Wecnyal, Wecnyal Thiang”, he added on banner.
Lam, who doubles as the Unity State Minister of Physical Infrastructure in the current revitalized unity government, became Leek Community Chairman in a controversial election that was denounced and criticized by some Leek intellectuals overseas citing lack of transparency and credibility of the electoral procedures but because of Lam’s immediate response to natural disaster, which has displaced a huge number of people from rural areas, the son of Leek Paramount Chief, Tungwar Kuigwuong, is likely to regain more support.
Rubkona is one of the oil producing counties in Unity State and it is inhabited mostly by the Leek-Nuer in Western Upper Nile Region.
