June 23, 2021 – A delegation from Leek Community of Rubkona County in Unity State led by Lam Tungwar has asked the Revitalized Government of National Unity under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit to support the local community by revamping the community’s infrastructure.
This comes after members of the community met Mr. Kiir in his office and discussed a wide range of issues affecting Leer.
The delegation expressed their concerns on issues to do with floods, lack of basic needs, and infrastructure development as some of the problems facing the people of Leek Community in Rubkona County as well as the need for more representation of Leek people in the National Government.
According to a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the delegation commended Kiir for the tremendous work that he has done for South Sudan and teased him as a “symbol of peace, a hero and loving son of the nation”.
The delegation says in the statement: “The people of Leek Community commends and trust the leadership of H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and pledged that they will continue to support his leadership and the Government of National Unity.”
Speaking to the media after the meeting, The Chairman of Leek Community who doubles also as Unity State Minister for Physical Infrastructure, Lam Tungwar urged Kiir to prioritize Unity State in the infrastructure development plan strategy.
The Press Secretary in the Office of the President Ateny Wek Ateny said Kiir also pledged to address the problems raised that are facing the people of Leek Community adding that President Salva Kiir Mayardit encouraged the people of the Leek community to work with the national, state, and local governments for their demands to be delivered.
Leek Community members are inhabitants of Rubkona county of Unity bordering Bul, Jagei, Western Jikany, and Ruweng Administrative Area.
