March 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A local lawmaker in South Sudan’s Wau state has condemned what he said was a reckless statement by South Sudan’s Information Minister and government spokesman Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth over last week’s civilian massacre in Wau state.

A militia group from South Sudan’s Tonj state last week attacked local population in Wau state killing 15 and critically injuring 20 others. Children were killed and women who are also among the victims were raped  and killed as well.

Minister Makuei later called the fatal attack as a ‘normal thing’ drawing criticism from Wau locals.

Dominic Ater, State member of parliament in Wau state, representing Roc-Roc Dong County called on national parliament to summon Minister Makuei to explain why he said this saying what he said was not right for a national minister to say.

“What he said is not right in the first place and am calling upon the national assembly to summon the minister to explain himself,” he said.

He urged Makuei to publicly apologize saying he is disappointed by the statement because of the death of women and small children. He said he condemn the statement by Minister Michael Makuei.

“Am disappointed over such statement because women and small children are dying and the minister is saying it is a normal. I condemn the minister’s statement,” he added.
