Lam AKol’s National Democratic Movement (NDM) endorses peace deal

September 25th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s armed opposition group, the National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, former South Sudan agriculture minister, have endorsed the revitalized agreement signed early this month in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

In a notification letter sent to the IGAD special envoy Ismail Wais, the Chairman and Commander in Chief of the armed opposition group, Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, said the national leadership council ratified the agreement.

“Reference to article 8.1 of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan, it gives pleasure to inform you that the National Leadership Council of the NDM has, in its Sixth Session on 22nd of September 2018, ratified the R-ARCSS,” Lam said in a letter to IGAD special envoy.

The National Democratic Movement (NDM) is a member of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) which signed the revitalized agreement early this month alongside other opposition groups including the SPLM-IO led by Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 after fighting broke out within the Presidential Guards igniting a civil war following a mass killings of ethnic Nuer civil in the capital Juba by Dinka militias organized by the state as per the report of the African Union Commission of Inquiries on South Sudan.
